Wednesday, February 25, 2004; 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Does speaking to a parent "stress you out?" Do you know the best way to deal with a confrontational parent? Workshop will discuss effective communication techniques when dealing with parents that will lead to a reduction in your stress level. Learn how to reduce your stress level on the job with various hands-on activities. Leave the workshop feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Kim Hengst will present the program. The Spirited Child (The Nuts and Bolts of Behavior Management, Part 1)
Do you know a child who is the "super ball" in a room already full of bouncing balls? This session provides an overview of the characteristics of the spirited child, understanding the nine temperament traits and the effects of temperament.
Intervention Strategies (The Nuts and Bolts of Behavior Management, Part 2)

Do you want to understand the reasons why children misbehave? This interactive workshop will focus on learning practical strategies to help you investigate and resolve specific behavioral issues and situations. Parts one and two will be presented by Linda Berenson.

Behavior Management/Crisis Intervention: Passive Restraint
Thursday, May 6, 2004; 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Effective discipline in the form of behavior management and limit setting are critical components of any comprehensive daycare program. Tempering discipline with patience, love and kindness is a constant tightrope act for a provider; maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for children, while establishing limits that respect the rights of others. Even with these precautions, some of the most experienced day care providers have found themselves in situations where accusations are made regarding the appropriateness of issuing discipline. Participants' most challenging experiences will be the foundation for exploring various techniques of behavior management and crisis intervention. Vicki Thomas will present the program.
